Junior Research Group of Dr. Christoph Eberl

Research Project

The goal of the project is to develop a micro-kHz system for multiaxial fatigue loading in the group of Dr. C. Eberl. The initial approach is to fix the sample on one side and to put on the other side two independent controlled piezoelectric actuators. In phase, a cyclic stimulation leads to a bending load of the sample; an in-phase opposition excitation leads to a torsion load of the sample. The bending and torsion moments can be measured using a laser which reflects on the mass and is directed onto a detector. The phases and amplitudes of the piezoelectric actuators can be regulated using FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array). First simulations have showed that the resonance frequencies of bending and torsion modes are very close.
