What we stand for

The Young Investigator Network (YIN) has been created as an independent structure and a representative body at KIT. Its Mission: to provide help for self-help and make KIT an ideal place to be for young investigators. To this effort, the following three principles have and will continue to guide YIN activities and endeavors.
YIN encourages each member to become an excellent scientific leader.
Leadership Excellence is the skill of creating a supportive working environment where each individual thrives and contributes to a joint effort that as a whole is greater than the sum of its parts. To make this happen, diversity, inclusion and equal opportunities for all are essential building blocks that foster creativity, out-of-the-box-thinking, and innovation. YIN Professional Development strengthens the personal, interaction and methodological competences to enable young investigators to lead their groups efficiently while being highly self-reflective and diversity sensitive.
YIN represents the interests of young investigators at KIT.
All YIN members are on the critical career step between postdoc and tenured professor. Most of them face an uncertain future depending on developments within the academic landscape and the priorities at KIT. YIN lobbies for transparency and the accessibility of different career paths at KIT, equal payment for equal duties and responsibilities as well as furthering the eligibility to full professorship of its members.
YIN brings people together - scientifically and personally.
Together, everyone achieves more is a core principle of YIN. The YIN Grants encourage interdisciplinary collaborations and support YIN members to thrive in their research pursuits. Peer Coaching enhances the exchange of experience and problem-solving capacities of YIN members. With its mentoring program, YIN draws on the strong connections to its alumni and the atmosphere of trust and mutual understanding within the network.
